Parent Info

Thank you for your interest in the Clarksville Youth Track Club as one of your child’s summer activities.  We hope that it will be a positive experience for all involved.  Our goal for the program is to teach the basic skills in the sport of track and field:  Running/Jumping / Throwing, with an emphasis on fun and fitness.  We encourage parents to get involved and your feedback is always welcome.  PLEASE READ the information carefully.  It should take care of most of the questions you might have on the workings of the Clarksville Youth Track Club.  If we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to us at the Austin Peay State University Track Office at 931-221-7211.

PRACTICES:

·         Practices are held 6:30-8:00 PM each Monday and Wednesday evening.  ·         Please try to be on time so that we will have enough time to devote to practice. ·         The first practice is Monday May 30th and the last practice is July 1st.  ·              Practices are not mandatory; however, the more you attend the more you will learn. ·         Practice cancellation due to inclement weather will be handled at the site by the Clarksville Track Club Director. ·         Make sure you bring proper fluids for your child to practice; water is preferable during practice. ·         Children at practice will be separated into birth-year practice groups.                            PROGRAM T-SHIRTS: ·         Program T-shirts will be available for distribution at practice on June 15th.  ·         Sizes are strictly based on what you requested on your registration form, size exchanges will not be possible. ·         If you wish to purchase additional shirts, they may be ordered June 15th at $10/shirt by placing an order when the T-Shirts are distributed.

FRIDAY TRACK MEETS:
*** If this is your first experience with attending a track meet please recognize that track meets are run differently than any other sporting activity you have been involved with in the past.  Unlike basketball/soccer/baseball /football games which have defined time or period limits, a track meets duration is based on numbers of participants and events.  Since we cannot always determine the number of children participating in the meet from week to week the length of the meet may vary.  We ask for your understanding and patience in this matter.  Track meets also have field events and running events occurring simultaneously.  This means that in some cases because of event order you may have to be more selective in the event choices for your child. ***

1. Meet Dates:  On the Friday June 17 and 24 with the championship on July 1 from 6:30 PM to approximately 9:30 PM (depending on the number of participants) at Austin Peay State University Governors Stadium.

2. Track Directions:  APSU Governors Stadium is located on the campus of Austin Peay State University on the corner of Marion St. and Sumner St.

5. Awards:   Awards (Ribbons) will be awarded at the finish line for all running events and at the field event venue after the conclusion of each field event.
 6. Event Entry / Check-In:    Parents may choose the events, which each child will enter, keeping in mind the maximum number of events allowed by age group.  Check-In for field events will occur at the field event venue.  Running event check in will occur directly behind the starting line of each race.
 7.  Track Access / Safety:   We encourage parents to support their children’s efforts at the meet, however for safety purposes we must require the parents to remain outside the track area during running events and to keep the field event venues (long jump in particular) clear at all times.  This will allow our officials to run the meet more efficiently.  We understand the need to escort the Pre-Primary and Primary’s to their events.  However, once they have signed up please return to a viewing area outside of the field event venue. PLEASE DO NOT CROSS THE INFIELD WHEN TRYING TO REACH THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE TRACK!
 8. Meet Cancellations:    Meet cancellations will be handled at the meet site by the meet director, so plan on coming rain or shine.   Please do not call for meet cancellations.
9.
